Masks

Masks are used in a number of ways. Other people cannot see your real face when you are wearing a mask. Masks are useful in many ways.

Sometimes people use masks just for fun. Masks can be put on for entertainment. At plays, instead of using computer animation, people wear masks with different faces to make people laugh, scare them and lots more. During Halloween, some people wear masks that are so realistic they literally send shivers down my spine.

Another reason people wear masks is to protect themselves. People who wield metal together wear thick metal masks to prevent sparks from flying into their face. Athletes like football players wear masks so they do not get concussions and get hurt. Baseball catchers wear masks to stop the 100 mile-per-hour, speedy-fast ball from smashing into their skulls.

People wear masks for many reasons. Some people wear masks for fun while others need them. Masks are needed.

Homework*

“And don’t forget that you have a test on Monday!” my teacher called to us as we were leaving, “And have a good weekend.” “How am I suppose to have a good weekend with so much homework!” I groaned to myself as I got on the bus, “Latin homework, math homework, Texas History homework, English homework, science homework, so much homework!”

When I got home I groaned again. My mom doesn’t let me watch TV, play video games, or do anything fun until I finished all my homework. I took out my pencil and got to work, knowing that I’ll never finish if I didn’t start now. My pencil traveled across the page, answering question as it went. Multiple-choice and short answers and essays; it seemed as if all the types of questions in the world was in my homework. “I’am never going to finish,” I mourned inwardly.

Suddenly more and more homework appeared; it started to completely cover the table. Soon it was overflowing. Stacks and stacks of homework appeared. The whole ground was staring to get covered. It was rising to my knees, then my waist. I wanted to shout for help, but my voice made no sound. The papers of homework started to rise to my neck. My eyes blurred. Soon I was completely covered in homework. I couldn’t breath. I was about to die. Just when everything went black I woke up halfway though my math homework.

Realizing that I had fallen asleep and that it was just a dream, I started once more on my homework. But the thoughts about having too much homework were gone. I was  still alive. “I didn’t have that much homework after all,” I mused to myself, “From now on, I will never again complain about having to much homework.”

Bassoons

Do you know what a bassoon is? Probably not. I love to play the bassoon. A bassoon is a long tube that doubles back so you can hold it easier. Good bassoons are made from wood but the beginners models, like mine, is made from plastic. The bassoon is covered with metal buttons and keys that you press to make a different sound. 3/4 of the way up the bassoon, there will be a metal pipe sticking out of the bassoon towards you. The metal pipe is where you put your reed on to play the bassoon. A bassoon reed is two flat pieces of reed, which is a plant, layered on top of each. By blowing through the reed, you make the reed vibrate to make a sound. I love to play the bassoon. Do you play an instrument?
